German threesome

Christmas came early again in shape of this German trio from Spitalsfield Market. A Steuler ‘Zyklon’ and a Bay vase and a gorgious lamp base of unidentified origins. Hopefully Santa Claus will take care of a lamp shade. Not bad all together for £40.

50s Kitchen Scale

50's kitchen scale

This slightly battered kitchen scale is another find from the cheap end of Portobello Market. Admittedly it’s not ultra precise but working nevertheless, it might not be usable though for a fussy ingredient list.

A bargain for £10

Vintage Festival at London’s Southbank

London’s Vintage Festival featured a brilliant array of Vintage and Retro music, fashion, film, art, design and most importantly a Vintage market with over 200 vendors of fashion, accessories and furniture from the 20s to the 80s. We couldn’t resist some shopping and it took a lot of willpower not to blow this month’ budget.

Lovely Retro fabric for £5 per metre. Might turn it into a curtain one day?

Extra teapot for our Meakin coffee set. Same set was featured to our delight in the brilliant 60′s movie ‘Made in Dagenham’

Jessie Tait designed ‘Cassandra’ pattern brought alive in a Midwinter gravy boat. Love the shape, colours and pattern – affordable for £8.

Mushroom Chair

Design Classic by Pierre Paulin, 1963: “A chair should be more than simply functional. It should be friendly, fun and colorful.”

Included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York!

Available from Northern Icon for a respectable £ 1,851.00 OR it could have been yours for EUR 10 from a respectable junk shop in Berlin-Neukoelln. Admittedly not the original, but pretty close I’d say. Only snobs will notice.

New shop in town

I’m always happy to discover a change to the otherwise monotonous assembly of high street shops that’s taking over the area and I’m particular delighted when is is as beautiful a shop as Skandinteriors, which stocks mid-20th century furniture, lamps and some fine pieces of English pottery and Fat Lava vases. Most of the furniture is sourced from Scandinavia and in excellent condition. It ain’t cheap, as to no surprise regarding the location in posh Hampstead but it’s a beautiful shop with beautiful things and not to be missed checking out.
